The ellipsis is the formal name for three dots in a row. In writing, it’s used as punctuation to indicate that text has been omitted from a quotation. The word “ellipsis” itself comes from the Greek for “omission”. It’s also used in digital communication to convey different expressive meanings.
The ellipsis (…) is a punctuation mark consisting of three dots placed horizontally in a row. It has a recognized grammatical role in written English, primarily serving to indicate that some text within a quotation has been omitted. For example:
“According to the report, the company’s profits have increased by 20%.”

The Therefore Symbol
The therefore symbol is a distinct triangular arrangement of three dots, used in mathematics and logic. This symbol is commonly known as the therefore symbol (∴). It is an upright triangle made up of three dots. This symbol is used as a shorthand for the words “therefore” or “thus”, and indicates that a conclusion logically follows from the preceding statements or premises. It is rarely used in normal writing, but does appear in mathematical texts. The therefore symbol does not appear on a regular keyboard.

Three dots are also used as a symbol in Freemasonry. This symbol has a different purpose than the therefore symbol used in logic.
